The Challenge

Reaching Patients in a High-Consideration Category

Root Hair is a Seattle-based clinic specializing in hair transplant surgery for men and women, including beard transplants. Procedures start at $8,000 and commonly run to $15,000. At that price point, patients do not click an ad and book the same day. They research for weeks or months before making a decision.

A search-only strategy captures patients who have already decided they want a transplant and are comparing clinics. That is a competitive, expensive slice of the market. Root Hair needed to enter the conversation earlier, during the research phase when patients are still weighing their options, and stay visible through to the point of booking.

In the prior period, the account was generating results but leaving volume on the table: 485 conversions at $178.14 per inquiry. The cost was too high to scale aggressively, and the channel mix was too narrow to reach patients at the top of the funnel.

The Strategy

Top-of-Funnel Video + Bottom-of-Funnel Search

We built a two-layer architecture: YouTube campaigns to reach patients in the awareness and consideration stages, and search campaigns to capture high-intent queries from patients ready to book.

YouTube Shorts provided cost-efficient reach against broad audiences interested in hair loss, hair restoration options, and before/after content. Long-form video campaigns built deeper education for patients actively researching procedures, explaining the transplant process, recovery timeline, and what to expect from results. Both formats were optimized continuously for ad strength and creative performance.

Search campaigns sat at the bottom of the funnel targeting procedure-specific queries: hair transplant cost, FUE vs FUT, hair transplant Seattle, beard transplant near me. Negative keyword management kept spend away from DIY, non-surgical, and irrelevant traffic that would click but never convert.

The Results

More Patients, Lower Cost, Bigger Pipeline

The multi-format approach grew conversions from 485 to 690 (a 42% increase) while cutting cost per inquiry from $178.14 to $134. That combination of higher volume and lower cost is what good funnel expansion looks like: you are reaching more people at the awareness stage, qualifying them through the funnel, and converting them at better efficiency.

At $134 per inquiry and procedure values starting at $8,000, the math is straightforward. A 15% close rate on 690 inquiries produces roughly 104 procedures. At the minimum $8,000 procedure value, that represents $832,000 in revenue potential from a single campaign period, generated on $92,500 in total ad spend.

Every dollar spent acquiring a $134 inquiry costs 1.7% of the minimum procedure value. Hair restoration is a category where patient economics make paid advertising one of the most efficient growth channels available, provided the campaign architecture reaches the right patients at the right stage of their decision.

Cost Per Patient Inquiry in a $8,000-$15,000 Procedure Category

At $134 per inquiry, acquiring a hair transplant patient costs less than 2% of the minimum procedure value. The multi-format strategy (YouTube Shorts and long-form video building awareness, search campaigns capturing booking intent) produced 690 inquiries at 25% lower cost than the prior period. At a standard close rate, that volume represents over $800,000 in potential procedure revenue.
